“Tamilnadu Cultural Festival” in The Great India Place, Noida from January 24-26, 2009.
Avvai Tamil Sangam in association with IRPPL ( The Great India Place Mall, Noida) celeberated Republic day in a unique way. This three day event with a theme of promoting the rich culture of Tamilnadu to the people of Northern India has been planned to promote the classical and Folk dances of Tamilnadu.
Following the objective of our association to promote the locally available skills, the children from various dance institutes from Noida and around participated this event and performed cultural dances of Tamilnadu, Rajasthan, orissa , Andrapradesh etc., and to promote folk. Danvers from Eyal Isai Nataga Manram Chennai has been invited.
With Folk and classical dances from Tamil Nadu at one side and the entire mall decorated on Tamilnadu theme on another side, the three day program in total has helped us a lot to introduce the culture of Tamilnadu to the people living here. Thoranams (Hangings) made up of Palm leaves and Pongal , Navarathri celebration themes added value. v
We were very happy to mention here that some of the folk dancers are indeed college students who are devoting their time for the development of this art, we utilized this as an opportunity to parents to encourage their kids to learn folk dances as today most of the importance is given only to classical dances.
The crowd visited the mall on 25th Jan was a record high of 1.9 Lakh. Though our festival was not the only reason for people to come there ( there were some mega sales going on) but the crowd got a chance to visit our stalls and program to know us more.
The program was aimed at promoting the folk arts of India which is not getting much attention from the urban people. The rich culture of India should grow and Avvai Tamil Sangam initiated a step towards preserving the culture by promoting the event.
Minister of State for Railways Mr.R.Velu and Mrs. Somya Anbumani Ramadoss, Executives from Delhi Tamil Sangam and numerous other corporate heads graced the occasion
